Ratna Ling Work-Study Retreat

How can you get the most out of life?

“For many people today, work is losing its meaning…This is unfortunate, for work is a very effective means for learning how to find deep satisfaction in life. Work can be a source of growth, an opportunity to learn more about ourselves and to develop positive and healthy relationships.”

–Tarthang Tulku, Skillful Means

Ratna Ling Retreat Center hosts a variety of individual and group retreats. While Ratna Ling does not function as a traditional monastic community, it does uphold Buddhist principles and all guests and residents are asked to adhere to certain simple practices to help maintain a respectful atmosphere.

Work at Ratna Ling involves focusing one’s efforts on certain responsibilities, though we do not necessarily adhere to specific job titles. Each individual is asked to reach out and extend their unique skills and energies to care for the task at hand until the job is finished. We aim to support one another and to see each moment as an opportunity to make a cooperative offering to our community and our guests.

We are encouraged to directly engage the challenges that work presents to us, such as deadlines, resistance, restlessness or frustration. When we can connect to the freshness and richness within each moment no matter what we are doing, we are planting the seeds that will support an attitude of integrity, appreciation, honesty, and joy.

We are looking for volunteers who are flexible, enjoy working independently as well as part of a team, in good physical health, and who would enjoy creating a welcoming and inspiring environment for our guests and community. Due to the nature of guest services and the hours we work, break times and days off may differ slightly from the regular schedule.
